How to Make ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity Understand Your Business

How to make ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity understand your business

Direct answer: to make AI answer engines understand and mention your business you need three things on a solid SEO base: content that answers questions directly (AEO), a coherent, verifiable brand entity (GEO) and verifiable external sources. There is no trick to "appearing in ChatGPT": you build the conditions to increase the probability of being retrieved, cited or considered.

What does it mean for an AI to "understand" your business?

An AI doesn't browse your site like a person: it retrieves fragments, interprets them and decides whether they are useful and trustworthy. "Understanding" means three things: that it finds you (your content is crawlable and indexable), that it understands what you offer (your entity is clear and consistent) and that it has reasons to trust (there is real evidence and reputation).

If one of the three is missing, the mention collapses. That's why the work is organized into SEO (get found), AEO (make your answer usable) and GEO (make your brand recognizable and credible).

Why isn't AI mentioning you today?

  • Your page doesn't answer the main question. If the answer isn't in the first block, the engine won't extract it.
  • Your content is generic. No real questions, definitions or criteria means nothing citable.
  • Your site isn't well ranked or structured. AI relies on what Google understands.
  • Your entity is fuzzy. If your site, GBP and LinkedIn say different things, AI doesn't know who you are.
  • No external sources. Without real reviews, cases or mentions, there is no verifiable backing.

Step 1 — SEO is still the foundation

Google made it explicit in its 2026 guide for content in generative experiences: good SEO practices remain the base and there is no separate trick that replaces them. A site without SEO not only fails to appear on Google: it also offers no reliable information an AI can cite.

Get the basics right: fast, indexable site, per-page titles and descriptions, clear architecture, original content and some authority. That's the ground covered by our SEO + AEO + GEO system.

Step 2 — Answer-first content (AEO)

AEO is what makes your content usable as an answer. Apply it on every important page:

  • Answer the main question in the first block, before expanding.
  • Use question-shaped H2 and H3 ("How…?", "How much…?", "Which…?").
  • Include definitions, comparisons, steps, limits and prices when relevant.
  • Add original evidence: screenshots, campaign data, cases and experiences.
  • Use tables when the decision involves comparing options.
  • Sign with author, role and update date.

This is exactly what our AEO service delivers.

Step 3 — Brand entity and structured data (GEO)

  • A single canonical definition of your brand, repeated across your site, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn and relevant directories.
  • Consistent NAP (name, address, phone) where applicable.
  • Verifiable schema: Organization (with knowsAbout and sameAs), Service, FAQPage, Article.
  • Official profiles linked from your site and back.

This is the core of GEO (Generative Engine Optimization).

Step 4 — External sources and real reputation (GEO)

  • Google Business Profile complete and verified.
  • LinkedIn for company and founders, updated and consistent.
  • Genuine reviews, answered (never bought).
  • Case studies with metrics and client authorization.
  • Legitimate editorial mentions: local media, associations, partners, podcasts, events and professional directories.

What does NOT work?

  • Promising "I'll make you appear in ChatGPT". No one controls appearance; whoever guarantees it is lying.
  • Buying reviews or mentions. They aren't verifiable and expose you.
  • Repeating keywords without answering anything. Thin content is what doesn't get cited.
  • Publishing ten near-identical pages. They cannibalize your authority.

How do you measure whether AI understands you?

  • Define 20 to 30 real buyer questions (discovery, comparison, problem, brand and local).
  • Ask them the same way, month over month, in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.
  • Record: whether you appear, in what context, which source was cited and which competitors show up.
  • Compare the trend and adjust.

Frequently asked questions

Can I appear in ChatGPT without SEO?

In practice, almost never. AI answer engines feed on what is already well structured and ranked; without a solid SEO base there is no reliable information to cite.

Is this AEO, GEO or SEO?

All three. SEO gets you found, AEO makes your answer usable and GEO builds your brand credibility. They reinforce each other.

How long does it take?

The content and entity base can take weeks; external authority and mentions are built over months and measured monthly.

Do you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend me?

No, and be wary of anyone who guarantees it. We build the technical, editorial and authority conditions to increase the probability of being considered; appearance can not be controlled or bought.
